At this event, we aim to put the spotlight on the role regulators, banks, insurance companies and investors play in accelerating the transition in all sectors. Integrating key climate and nature risks into all processes is a long-term task in which all actors of the financial sector still face many different challenges. We will discuss with our speakers how they adapt their processes to reflect emerging risks and where they see the role of different actors in supporting an accelerated transition in times of growing headwinds for the sustainability agenda.
Andréa M. Maechler is Deputy General Manager of the Bank for International Settlements. Previously, she served on the Swiss National Bank’s Governing Board, where she oversaw key financial portfolios. Before that, she held roles at the International Monetary Fund, the European Systemic Risk Board, and the OECD. She also chaired the Global Foreign Exchange Committee of central banks.
Stefan Walter is the CEO of FINMA and responsible for its operational management. Previously, he was General Director at the ECB, where he developed banking supervision for systemically important banks in the Eurozone and later managed horizontal supervision, including risk assessment and stress testing. Before that, he held key roles at EY, the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, and others.
Martin M. Bardenhewer is CFO at ZKB. Prior positions include head of institutional clients and multinationals, group treasurer and various roles in risk management at ZKB. He is a long-standing member of the bank's sustainability board. Until 2022, he was visiting lecturer at University of Zurich and served as co-chair of the National Working group of reference rates.
Deia Markova became Head of Trade & Sustainable Commodities Finance in Switzerland in January 2020. She started her career at Societe Generale in 2001, and later led corporate lending at Sberbank (Switzerland). In 2018, she joined SG Zurich to develop sustainable financing solutions.
Hans Hess is Chairman of the Board at Synhelion. He is also an entrepreneur, investor, and former CEO of Leica Geosystems AG, which he successfully listed on the Swiss Stock Exchange. He has held leadership roles in Swiss organisations like Swissmem and economiesuisse and founded Hanesco AG in 2006.
Kayode Akinola heads the global private equity direct investments practice at Blue Earth Capital. With over 25 years of experience, he previously held senior roles at KKR, Helios Investment Partners, and Investcorp, focusing on private equity across various markets. He began his career at Deutsche Bank and holds an LLB from University College London.
Patrick Odier is the president of Swiss Sustainable Finance, elected in June 2021. He has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bank Lombard Odier & Co Ltd. since January 1st, 2014, and he has been Senior Managing Partner of the Lombard Odier Group since July 1st, 2008.
Sabine Döbeli has worked in the field of sustainable finance for 25 years in different roles. She established SSF and took over the role as CEO in 2014. She is a member of advisory councils, for various organisations such as the Swiss Federal Council and the FOEN.
Caroline Roth is a business moderator and financial journalist with 12 years of experience as a host and reporter at CNBC. Since 2019, she has been working freelance with NZZ Connect, CNBC, Handelsblatt, Forbes, and many others.
